Ellen Dickinson As an apprentice to Les Bohnenkamp (an early proponent of fiber sculpture), and fan of the work of Fern Jacobs and Jane Sauer, Ellen Dickinson creates sculptures from warp linen thread and clothesline, utilizing a basic coiling and wrapping basketry technique. Although she has a background in fine art, she is self-taught in this technique. Ellen's skills have been honed over many years, which adds strength and uniformity to the accretive process. The naturally occurring spirals of the technique has led her to build more complex organic forms where there is an ever-shifting surface plane. In more recent work, Ellen has begun exploring the addition of color to the natural hues of the warp linen thread. The color acts to contain and reinforce the kinetic movement within the sculpture and accentuates the dynamic outline of the planar edge.

Christine Reeves Pope is an embroiderer from Guanajuato, Mexico. Christine was born in 1919 in Moulton, Alabama. When she was three, her mother died and Christine and five older brothers went off to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, where the girls were housed on one hill and the boys on another far away, and Christine only saw her kin Sundays in church. It was at the Children’s Home that she first learned to sew, and was taught to embroider linens and ladies handkerchiefs by Miss Rosa Andrews, one of two childless sisters who raised her and hundreds of other girls during the hard years of the Depression. Christine remained at the Home until the age of eighteen. Christine married and raised three children in Houston, Texas. It was after the kids were mostly grown before she took up embroidery and stitch work again. Today Christine lives in Cielito Lindo (Lovely Skies), in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Christine’s work is in private collections throughout Mexico, Colorado, Texas, New York and the American South.

Chris Taylor Award winning artist Chris Taylor is accomplished in watercolor, oil, pastel, and stone sculpture, but her current medium of choice is Batik, an ancient art form that is moving into the modern world though new technologies and techniques. Intricate designs are created with a wax and dye process that can take weeks to complete, resulting in a unique piece of artwork. Chris lives, works, and exhibits on Long Island.

Dawn Wakiya is an emerging artist who's primary fiber arts form is Weaving. Mostly self taught, she has a degree in both Graphic Design & Interior Design which has contributed to a natural affinity for repetitive pattern & rythm, bold shape & color as well as an appreciation for the tactile quality of a woven textile. While past work with fiber had taken the form of collage/mixed media on canvas and wood panel, recent work has taken the form of pure loom weaving, sometimes with the basic rigid heddle loom, other times directly woven onto handmade tapestry looms specific to the piece. Recent experimentation with non traditional materials for weft yarns and free form open hand work based on traditional weaving techniques meld together to form weavings that convey a sense of quiet elegance.
