Our Student Scholarship Show!

Our Student Scholarship Show is coming up!

November 22, 23, and 24 at the Bellport Community Center


Reception,  Friday evening, Nov 22nd from   7 - 9 pm - Awards at 8 pm
The Exhibit is open to the Public on Saturday November 23rd from 10 -6, 

and on Sunday November 24th from 10 -3.

Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the show, 

so please contact Rosamaria Eisler if you can help out in any way.

This year, SBAA will present three awards of $1,000.

In addition, Awards will be presented by: Brookhaven National Laboratory, Women Sharing Art, The Lester Sprague Memorial Scholarship, The Gale Trujillo Memorial Scholarship, the Emily Czaja Memorial award, PALS Plein Air Limner Society,


and The BAHC.







We are proud to say that every year since our inception (1956) we have provided scholarship to various segments of the student population. This is accomplished through the dedication of our members, our volunteers, our friends and neighbors and we are truly happy and grateful to be able to continue this tradition. Our students come from all over Suffolk County to compete in our event and we thank everyone who makes this show a success every year!

Born in Mexico City, Rosamaria Eisler is a printmaker, painter and educator whose inspiration comes from her daily experiences. Rosamaria received a MA from Adelphi University, garden City, NY; a BA in Art Studio and Art History from SUNY at Stony Brook, NY; and a BS in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Morelos, Mexico. From 1999 to 2009, Rosamaria worked as an Adjunct Professor in Adelphi University, Art department. She was a printmaker Instructor at The Art Barge in Amagansett, NY. Currently, she teaches at the Art School of the East End Arts in Riverhead, where she set up the Printmaking Studio while being an Artist in Residence in 2011.

SBAA's 2nd Annual Juried Show!


SOUTH BAY ART ASSOCIATION
is proud to announce the

SECOND ANNUAL JURIED MEMBERS ART EXHIBITION
To be held at the Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery

139 S. Country Road
Bellport NY 11713

Eligibility:  Current Membership in SBAA  must be verified.

Entries:     Entry fee = $10 per piece, 2 pieces  maximum.  Entry fees are non-refundable.   All checks must be made to South Bay Art Association (SBAA)
Entries must be original in concept and execution, created within two years and not previously exhibited in any SBAA Members Exhibition.  This is a fine arts exhibit and no crafts will be accepted.  Works must be suitably framed and wired for hanging, no “saw-tooth” hangers or similar types of hanging devices.  Unframed canvases with exposed staples will not be accepted.  No wet  works.

Dimensions:  One piece of the two may not exceed 30”x40”, the remaining  piece may not exceed 30” in any dimension, including the frame.  If the base of a sculpture exceeds 12” x 12” and requires a pedestal, the artist must supply the pedestal (preferably flat black finish) at check-in.  SBAA reserves the right to refuse any work due to space limitations or as deemed unacceptable for any reason by the Receiving Committee.

OPEN SHOW:    There are no specific categories but do identify your medium.
Please Note:  Any flat work which has been digitally enhanced with image-altering software must be indicated as “digitally enhanced” on the registration form.

Judging:  Ribbons may be awarded for  “Best in Show, “First”, “Second”, “Third”, and “ 10 Honorable Mention” .  Decisions of the judges are final.
Sales:  Entries must be offered for sale and the price will be listed on the entry form.    Prices will appear in the exhibition catalog.  The BAHC/Phoenix will assess a 30% commission on all works sold at the Phoenix during this exhibit.  Artwork sold may not be removed during the exhibit.

Liability and Responsibility:  The registration liability release must be signed.

Drop Off: Sunday September 22nd 2013, Noon to 3 p.m.
Works not selected for the Exhibit MUST be picked up as instructed, and those Artists will be notified by telephone. Wednesday Sept 25th 11-4

Reception  Friday September 27th, from 7 - 9 p.m

Show Closes October 6th.  All works must be picked up between 1 and 4 p.m.

DATE:           July 4th  (No rain date—In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled)
PLACE:         Bellport Lane, Bellport, Long Island, New York
                      Artists not allowed to set up until after 8:00 a.m.
REGISTER:   Between 8:00 a.m.—10:00 a.m.
                      Register at the Community Center, 4 Bell Street, Bellport
SALES:          Artists MUST register before selling work
                      Sales are allowed after 9:00 a.m. once you have registered
                      Sales permitted between 9:00 a.m.—4:oo p.m.
                      SBAA takes no commission on sales
FEES:            Non-Members  $75.00  per 10’ by 10’ tent or equivalent space
                      Members           $55.00  per 10’ by 10’ tent or equivalent space
RELEASE:     The SBAA  Release Form must be signed upon registration by each exhibitor
DISPLAYS:     Exhibitors will set-up their own displays along the sidewalks of Bellport Lane
according to the following
·      The display and/or artwork must not block the passage of the public.
·      Anything other than a vertical display must be positioned on the grass between the sidewalk & the street.
·      No part of the display or artwork may touch the fence.
·      No part of the display or artwork is allowed on the street.
·      No part of the display or artwork is allowed to obstruct a driveway or yard walkway.
·      Nothing may be hammered into tree roots or the tree itself.
ACCEPTANCE OF ALL WORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE EXHIBITION COMMITTEE. THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT OR REMOVE ANYWORK FROM THE EXHIBIT.
ACCEPTABLE:  Paintings, drawings, collage, photography, sculpture, pastels, prints (monotype, solar plate, etc. )
UNACCEPTABLE:  Jewelry, decoys, painted furniture, pottery.

This time honored media is essential to any artist’s education. Class will cover the many types of papers and techniques surrounding Charcoal and Pencil rendering. Still Life subjects will be available and if possible a portrait sitting. The art of the “Quick Sketch” will be explored as well as many other drawing exercises. Students will leave the class with a better understanding and appreciation for creating in black and white.
The course will also explore the Pastel medium which also relies on strong drawing skills. The student will learn how to utilize strong value using color, while being introduced to a truly stimulating medium! Experienced Pastelists will find this class enlightening as well to sharpen their skills and maybe learn

the course for you. Drawing being fundamental to virtually all of the visual arts this course will
highlight line quality, composition and chiaroscuro (light and shade). Proven techniques to jump-start
or enhance your abilities will be employed to make this an enjoyable visual arts experience.

Have fun while developing and expanding your watercolor skills. We will focus on painting bold and colorful watercolors. Emphasis will be on developing our drawing and painting skills and being creative by allowing the watercolor to do the work for us. Demonstrations will take place at each class. We will paint floral, nature scenes and wild life subject matter from photographs. Successful elements of composition will be taught. Previous watercolor knowledge will be helpful but not necessary.

Fused Glass Workshop

One 3 Hour Workshop: Intro to Fused Glass Pendants This exciting workshop allows students the opportunity to make jewelry out of glass. Learn cutting, product application, and assembling. Complete 1 or 2 pendants ready for the kiln by the end of the session. All you need is an idea and enthusiasm. Everything is supplied for you. Your curiosity about how glass pieces are made is satisfied. Come learn how simple it is!

This workshop is for students aged 12 to 18 This exciting workshop allows students the opportunity to make jewelry out of glass. Learn cutting, product application, and assembling. Complete 1 or 2 pendants ready for the kiln by the end of the session. All you need is an idea and enthusiasm. Everything is supplied for you. Your curiosity about how glass pieces are made is satisfied. Come learn how simple it is!

This “Painting for Pleasure” event is all about a relaxing night out. Create your own Masterpiece...no experience necessary. I will instruct you and a group of your friends, step by step, in the painting process until you each have a completed painting. This is a BYOB and wine event, where you can kick back, relax and let your creative spirit shine!! The $40 per person covers all art materials, and you supply the refreshments.
