Paint the Great South Bay Plein Air Event and Wet Paint Sale
The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council, (BAHC), and the South Bay Artist Association (SBAA) are inviting artists to paint en plein air along the Great South Bay, ranging from Bellport to West Sayville. Proceeds from this event will be used to fund future events within the SBAA/BAHC organizations.

Artists Paint at their discretion The Phoenix Gallery will be open at 9am. for check-in and coffee. The Gallery will be open till 5 pm, if you need to use the facilities.
Saturday, August 23 3 to 5 pm
Early Supper at BAHC, Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery for the participating artists

Open to the public. Hours of operations are: Thursday to Saturday, from 11 to 5 and Sunday. noon to 4.

Location: The Great South Bay on the South Shore of Long Island which includes the towns/villages/areas of Bellport, East Patchogue, Patchogue, Blue Point and Bayport, Sayville and West Sayville, NY, essentially the area south of Sunrise Highway.
Event will be limited to 30 plein air Artists age 18 and older on a first come first serve basis.
Artists will paint Friday, August 22 and Saturday August 23, (they can paint Thursday evening if their canvases/paper/supports are stamped).
There will be a show to close out the paint out, artists are invited to bring their work to the BAHC, Phoenix Gallery on 139 S Country Road, Bellport, NY On Sunday, August 24, 2014. To be eligible to participate in the show, art must be done between August 22, 2014 and August 23, 2014. No photo references will be permitted; all art must be completed en plein air during the outing. All artists must register prior to the weekend event and all canvas/paper, etc. needs to be stamped to be able to display the paintings in the Wet Paint Sale on Sunday.
Rules for the Paint out:
All painting mediums will be accepted for show and sales, paintings should be properly framed and wire mounted, no hooks or brackets, and brought to the BAHC, Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery on Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 12 to 4 PM. Canvases/paper or other supports used that haven't been stamped will not be permitted to enter into the sale.
All art must be completed during the plein air outing and done on location on the South Shore. A Facebook group will be set up for artists to post their location so that spectators will know where the artists are painting.
Work may be offered for sale subject to a 30% Commission. Artists are encouraged to submit 1 piece, a second piece is encouraged if SBAA/BAHC find they have extra space, however, space is only guaranteed for the first painting. Once all paintings are hung, additional paintings will be hung on a first come first serve basis as space permits.
You will be responsible for making arrangements to have your paintings picked up on September 21st between 12PM and 4PM on that Sunday. The Phoenix Gallery cannot store paintings, please make arrangements to have your unsold work picked up by 4PM on Sunday September 21st. SBAA/BAHC and the Phoenix Gallery will not be responsible for work not picked up by 4PM on September 21st.
Plein Air Artists Must Agree to:
- Paint the Great South Bay on August 22nd and 23rd, 2014 - Attend the Reception on September 7th from 1 to 4PM - Remove unsold paintings by 4PM on September 21st - Allow images of work entered into the Sale to be used by the South Bay Art Association for publicity purposes-SBAA, BAHC and the Phoenix Gallery will not be responsible for any personal injury, property loss or damage regardless of the cause.
Artists should complete the registration form and may apply in person at the Phoenix Gallery or by mail. All applications must be complete and returned to the SBAA no later than July 15th, and be accompanied by the non-refundable registration fee. Participating artists must agree to the terms and conditions of the Paint the Great South Bay Plein Air Event and Wet Paint Sale. Once 30 artists have registered, there will be a waiting list created for those that wish to paint and show. Fees will not be held for those on the waiting list and payment will be due on Friday August 22 for those on the Waiting List.

Information for Spectators, Patrons of Wet Paint Sale
The Plein Air Show will run from Monday, August 25th to Saturday September 20th at the Phoenix Gallery 139 S Country Road, Bellport, NY. Reception will be September 7th, 2014 from 1-4PM. Each Artist will have the opportunity to at least one painting into the sale. The Sale is open to the public.
