Member News- Fire Island and Historical Photos of LI

Congratulations to SBAA members Toni Bevona, Jeanne Salucci, Chris Taylor and Marianne Thorvaldsen whose work has been chosen to appear in the Friends of Fire Island 18 month Calendar, sales of which benefit FFINS and will be available on Fire Island in June.

Larry Johnston's work will be on exhibit at "Interpreting Fullerton" exhibit- paintings based on Historical Photographs of Long Island by Hal B. Fullerton, at Gallery North, April 20- May 30. Reception April 30th, 5 - 7 pm

The exhibit features 12 artists selected to interpret the photographs of Hal B. Fullerton. On May 3rd there will be an ArTalk at 3 pm with Neil Scholl "Placing Fullerton in History" www.gallerynorth.org

In 1949, 2500 glass photographic plates were found under the porch of a house in Setauket. These photographs were taken in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Hal B. Fullerton. They were rescued and donated to the Suffolk County Historical Society and in 2009, Neil Scholl volunteered his services to convert the glass plates to digital images.

12 L.I. Landscape artists have been invited to create paintings based on these locations for this exhibit.

They are:

Nancy Bueti-Randall, Esther Marie Chagaris, Cynthis Crowell, Anthony Davis, Elisabeth Greaf, Larry Johnston, Flo Kemp, Jane McGraw-Teubner, Jim Molloy, Dough Reina, Eileen Sanger and Jonathan van Brunt.

53rd Annual Members Exhibit

There are a few changes for this year so refer to your newsletter for details:

This year the show will be held at the Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery in Bellport, and it will be more than just the weekend! The entry fee is the same as last year, $10. per piece, and the gallery is only charging a nominal 5% fee on any sales to cover processing fees. They are not taking a commission of any type on your sales. However, there may be a size restriction due to space as the gallery is a bit smaller than the community center It depends what comes in at registration time.

The registration deadline is the same, the April Membership Meeting or postmarked by 4/28/10

We thank BAHC for their support of our annual event and their hospitality- anyone wishing to volunteer with receiving and sitting, your help is graciously accepted!

The Essence of Fire Island Show and other news

Toni Bevona, Sharon Way-Howard, Rose Ann Albanese, Marianne Thorvaldsen, Jeanne Salucci and Chris Taylor have had paintings accepted for consideration in the "The Essence of Fire Island" April 25, 2010 - May 31, 2010.

They have been chosen as semi finalists for the FFINS 18 mo. Calendar. Finalists to be announced at the Reception: April 25, 2010, 1pm-4pm. Art Contest & Exhibition at the Watch Hill Terminal, 160 West Ave. Patchogue, Long Island, NY 11772.
